We took the dogs for a long walk at a nearby state park where George ate his own weight in grass and induced his own vomiting. No more sharing food with them for a bit, I guess. The dogs enjoyed their time in the park until the rain came pouring down. Janey cowered in the backseat the entire way back to the hotel and then didn't want to get out of the car!!
The rain lightened a bit and we decided to take our chances going back to Glacier for a quick hike. We made a cute new friend yesterday who seemed to be a cousin of Mr. Squirrel. We didn't have permission to post his video yesterday because he wanted to preview it first and make sure we were only showing footage where his cheeks didn't make him look like a chipmunk (identity issues?!).
We were hoping to have more interesting wildlife encounters. We should have known to be careful about what we wished for!!
The sky looked even more ominous than it did yesterday, but YOLO, right? I'll admit, I've been dying to use that. How many of you had to look that up? Ha ha ha ha. We got lucky again and it barely rained while we were hiking. We began on the path that would lead us around John's Lake. This is the only picture we got before we got distracted by the sound of rushing water.
We came across another trail that seemed to head towards the water and decided to follow that path instead. That was the best decision of the day because it led us to some amazingly beautiful scenery.
It was absolutely fantastic and so peaceful since not many others were crazy enough to venture outdoors in this weather. There was only one thing that could put an abrupt end to our hike other than darkness.... MOSQUITOES!!! Not just a little mosquito but a swarm of big angry aggressive bloodsucking mosquitoes. Daniel now has a new nickname... the Skeeter Sniper! He must have killed at least 20 of the mosquitoes that landed on me before we managed to escape the swarm. He was such a good skeeter sniper that we managed to escape with less than 5 bites each.
We enjoyed dinner at a cute family owned Italian restaurant in the town followed by dessert at our new favorite place. S'mores and cinnamon cookie dough ice cream... YUM!
Hopefully tomorrow we will make it up to Many Glaciers and introduce dogs to the snow! :)
