A day of mishaps

It all started because Daniel and I thought it would be cool to check out the Portland Saturday Market. It sounded like an arts and crafts festival on a massive scale. My cousin Steven was nice enough to come pick us up and all of us headed over there. He tried to warn us in a very polite and subtle way that this probably wasn't exactly what we had in mind. He suggested a lot of henna tattoos, bongs, and lots of other "hippie" apparatus. We thought he was kidding, or at least, exaggerating drastically.

We parked the car and decided to go for a nice stroll across the bridge in the crisp cool morning air. We approached the market and our excitement grew, partially because we had already been walking for 45 minutes and partially because it looked pretty cool as we approached. There were rows and rows of booths set up. After about 10 minutes, we realized we didn't need anything tie dye and we weren't about to purchase any carved massage tools. We wandered around a few more minutes before we started the 45 minute walk back to the car.

At that point, we were pretty hungry. My cousin offered to take us to his place and make us brunch. This was, by far, the highlight of our day. We ate in his backyard which was a beautiful garden. We even got cherries and brownies for dessert, and needless to say, it was great to see more family :)

After leaving his place, we began the drive to Seattle. It went pretty quickly and we were happy to beat rush hour. We passed this beauty along the way and can't wait to get a coder look!!

We were excited to go get dinner and see the Fremont Fair. Our plans came to a crashing halt when we found out that our room wouldn't be ready for 90 minutes. Of course, having the dogs with us meant that we weren't doing very much during that time. Luckily, it was just enough time to do some laundry which was desperately needing to get done. The time passed slowly as we were getting more and more hungry by the moment. We were very much looking forward to going to Chinatown.

We did an internet search for the best Szechuan restaurant in Chinatown and started heading towards it. The parking lot there was a strange situation with a one lane ramp going underground. As we found out upon exiting, that was the only way in and the only way out. There was barely enough room to maneuver the car correctly to get up and down the ramp without hitting the corners, but Daniel is an excellent driver and no cars were harmed. Did you notice I skipped the part about the food? That's because I wished we had too. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't worth the price. Sigh.

We headed over the Fremont Fair. The place is PACKED with lots and lots of drunk college kids. We already considered leaving but we had already driven 30 minutes there. The parking situation was a disaster but we persevered. We FINALLY found a parking spot and walked about 15 minutes down a hill to get to the fair. What we found out is that the fair had ended at 6 and only the music festival was continuing. They were charging admission to a bunch of local no name bands we had never heard of and didn't plan on hearing. We turned about walked up the hill back to the car and decided to head elsewhere.

The Seattle Center seemed like a good idea so we could see the Space Needle, one of the most well known attractions in the city. We got there just as it was getting dark and it would have been the perfect time to see the beautiful nature in the background following by the twinkling lights of the city.

We found out they were charging $20/person and the line was really long. Neither part of that sounded like a good plan. It seemed like a massive tourist trap so we walked around the Seattle Center for a bit and found these cool "Sonic Blooms" that all run off solar energy.

Sometimes you just have to know when to call it quits. We went back to the room to get a good nights sleep and come up with a new plan of attack.
